Welcome to AMR in 60 seconds, it's December 18, 2023, and the new year is vast approaching. We start off with actor Matthew Perry, who died from an acute effect of kidney failure and an accident on October 28, at his Los Angeles home. Perry was found unresponsive in his pool, according to the medical examiner's office.

Perry was best known for his role as Chandler being one of the main cast members on Friends, the show which ran for 10 seasons. And a new California law will raise the minimum wage for fast food workers to $20 per hour in 2024. The new law applies to restaurants with more than 60 locations.

Up until now, California fast food workers earned an average of more than $34,000 a year, which is about $1660 an hour. On Saturday, Santas were running around Palm Springs as people came to support the Guide Dogs of the Desert in an annual Santa Paws 5K Run and Walk. The stroller-friendly and dog-friendly 5K event raises money for the Guide Dogs of the Desert, which is a local nonprofit organization which gives independency to people who have visual problems or are blind.

Volunteers train dogs who are then paired with a person who needs one at their local facilities in Desert Hot Springs. And that does it for this week. This is AMR in 60 seconds.
